Stay at Home Mom (SAHM)
I left my staff photography job when I was pregnant with my first son. Two kids and eleven years later, I found myself in the life of the “Stay at Home Mother” (SAHM). I traded photo assignments for folding laundry and doing dishes instead of shooting sports. By creating this project I wanted to shed light on the role of the SAHM, not only the physical work that this job entails but the emotional labor that comes along with it.
These photographs evoke loneliness and longing for a more valued profession. As progress slowly chugs along, the incessant nagging of what needs to be done is still resting its weight on the mother’s shoulders. In capturing my own surroundings I want to expose my vulnerabilities, examine gender roles, all while finding beauty in every day.
